I have a question on box statistics - I recently carved two stamps but Amanda planted
them while she was on a trip in Virginia. I wrote the clues and I am the contact on the
web page. Neither of us plans to be the maintainer of the box since neither of us is
local. Do I count these 2 boxes as "P"s? Does Amanda get to also? Do we each get
half credit? Has anyone else ever had a situation like this, and if so, how did you
handle it?

Since the boxes were a collaboration why not split the count, 1 for Amanda and 1 for you.

I don't think we'd ever get anyone to agree on a point like this,
but count it like you think it deserves to be counted. I generally
count a box as "placed" if I actually did the placing, so in your
case, I'd say Amanda should get the credit. But I doubt she'd add
it to her placed list because she probably doesn't feel like she did
enough of the work--you carved the stamp and wrote the clue and
therefore deserve the credit.
My method of counting placed stamps is probably flawed, but I like
it because it's relatively clear cut and means I don't have to make
as many murky counting choices. So I just assume the literal: It
counts as a "placed" if you PLACED it. =)
But it doesn't really matter.....

Okay Lea,
You're just messing with us; you know how LBs are normally placed,
but you're pushing the envelope. I say these are your letterboxes.
Think of painting, of Andy Warhol (or Rubens for that matter); he
directed the creation of his paintings, he designed them, he came up
with the original idea, but someone else actually applied the paint
per his explicit instructions. He signed them. They are his
paintings; these are your letterboxes.

Here's my take: There are lots of active letterboxing "teams" and partners,
and when they plant a box, each member of the team counts it as a P,
regardless of how they shared the tasks involved (as long as they all
participated in some way). Since your box was a "joint production" and
couldn't have happened without the participation of you both, I say you
each can count it as a plant.

Well I knew that when I asked this question I'd get a whole variety of
responses - it does seem that each individual letterboxer makes up
their own rules as they go along. I'm glad to hear that there are
other teams out there who each count the boxes on which they
collaborate. So I will probably go with 2 each or 1 each - Amanda,
what say you? Amanda did work very hard on her end, which included
dragging her ninety-something year old grandmother around to a
multitude potential planting spots around Virginia.
On a different note, I am planning on replanting my Crab Cove letterbox
today. It's a different stamp than the original, and it will be in a
slightly different place, but near to the old one.
Also welcome to all the new subscribers to the Northern California
Letterboxing list! Invitations have been going out to the locals and
response has been quite good so far.
